Truro's Jennings captures athletics crown

TRURO - Riley Jennings of the Truro Lions captured the JumpStart Athletics Series title during the weekend.

Riley Jennings of the Truro Lions capped a highly-successful athletics season by winning the JumpStart Athletics Series championship on Saturday in Port Williams, Kings County.

Jennings held off a surging field to secure the crown during a breakout season, where he turned in consistent results throughout the series.

Jennings capped his successful campaign with a first-place finish in shot-put (14.50m) on Saturday at the Corn Boil Open in Port Williams, Kings County.

Jennings was also first in the youth discus (42.22m), just ahead of Lions teammate Drew Erskine (41.44m).

In youth hammer, Erskine (53.46m) led the way, followed by Jennings (50.07m) and teammate Gregory McCarthy (49.57m).

Josh Bell, of Bluenose Athletics, finished behind Jennings in the overall standings, one point ahead of Erskine. Burris was just 20 points behind Erskine for fourth place. It was the closest finish in the nine-year history of the event.

Jennings and Launchers athlete Jodi Langley were named male and female athletes of the meet in Port Williams.
