TRURO — Paul Doucette pitched the complete-game victory as the Sydney Sooners posted a 7-2 win over the Truro Bearcats in Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League action Sunday at the TAAC Grounds.
Sunday’s win ensured the Sooners (2-4) took two games of the three-game set. They also won the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday by a 7-5 final, after suffering an 8-7 setback in the series opener.
In Sunday’s getaway game, Justin Brewer paced the Sydney offence with a double, two singles and drove in three runs. The Sooners broke the game open with three runs in the seventh and added another two in the ninth for good measure.
John Chapman was tagged with the loss on the mound. Adam Lombard was Truro’s top man at the plate with a double and two RBI.
Rookie hurler Logan Aker picked up his first senior league victory for the Sooners in the second game, after entering in relief of starter Justin Brewer in the seventh.
Kenny Long, Phil Brown and Sean Ferguson each had a single and an RBI apiece for Sydney.
Nick Best hit three singles for Truro. Mike Tobin hit a double and a single, Darson Murphy swatted two singles, while Chapman and Guy Pellerine had a double apiece.
Josh Fushtey was tagged with the loss.
The series opener saw the Bearcats (2-4) pick up the walk-off victory on an Adam Lombard RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Truro erased a 7-4 deficit for the victory.
Chapman picked up the win on the mound, while Nate Brewer took the loss.
Murphy swatted a double and two singles, while driving in two runs for Truro. Best followed with a double and a single.
For Sydney, Long hit two doubles, Matt Denney had a double and a single, Brown hit two singles and drove in a run, and Jordon Shepherd added a single.
