Atom AAA Cats earn bronze at provincial tournament

TRURO - The Physio One Truro Bearcats claimed the bronze medal at the Nova Scotia atom AAA hockey championship in New Waterford.

The Bearcats lost 4-3 to the East Hants Penguins in a semifinal game, as the Penguins scored the winning goal with 17 seconds left in the game.

The TASA Ducks won the provincial title, edging East Hants 3-2 in the final.

In round robin play, the Bearcats defeated the Sydney Steelers 10-1 and Cape Breton West Eagles 13-1. Truro later tied the South Shore Ice Sharks 5-5 and lost 4-2 to East Hants.

Several Bearcats were recognized for their play during the tournament. Oliver Arnfast was named top goaltender; Jacob Melanson was second-team all-star forward; Brayden Schmitt was first-team all-star defensemen and Owen Mullen was first-team all-star forward.
