Bearcats and Crushers to duke it out in junior A hockey playoff series

TRURO – It’s all set.

Truro Bearcats

The Truro Bearcats will host the Pictou County Crushers Tuesday at RECC to open the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s EastLink Division final the league announced Sunday. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Crushers advanced to the final after beating the Amherst Ramblers 3-2 Saturday in Game 7 of their division semifinal in front of 1,498 fans in New Glasgow. The Ramblers forced a seventh game thanks to a 2-1 win in Amherst on Friday.

The Bearcats swept the Valley Wildcats in four games in their semifinal, wrapping up that series Mar. 22.

The two sides lock horns again on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in New Glasgow before returning to RECC for Game 3 Saturday at 7 p.m. Game 4 will be Sunday at 7 p.m. in New Glasgow. If needed, Games 5, 6 and 7 will be Apr. 8, 10 and 14 respectively. All are 7 p.m. start times.

The two teams stack up well against each other when comparing numbers. The sides battled to a 3-3 draw in the regular season series with a combined score of 20-20.

Truro and Pictou County battled to seven games in last season’s division semifinal, with Truro coming out on top before marching on to a Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian championship.
