Cougars fall to Marauders

TRURO – The Cobequid Cougars’ bid for a berth at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 1 boys hockey championship came to an end on Monday.

The Cougars were edged 3-2 by the Memorial Marauders at the Colchester Legion Stadium. Memorial won the best-of-three qualifying series 2-0.

The Marauders will play at this weekend’s eight-team provincial championship tournament in Tantallon, hosted by the Sir John A Macdonald Flames.

Quinn Fullerton and Cole Allaby scored for the Cougars on Monday, while Richard MacNevin had two assists and Alex McNutt added a helper.

Blake Meech made 16 saves for the Cougars, who trailed 2-1 after two periods.

The Cougars lost Game 1 by the same 3-2 count on Sunday in North Sydney. Brady Davis had a goal and an assist for CEC in the contest, while Tristen Clark added the other goal and Matt Laing had two assists.

Meech made 22 stops.
