Blues capture midget AA provincial hockey title

TRURO - The Bedford Blues are the 2014 Nova Scotia midget AA hockey champions.

The Blues skated to a 7-1 victory over the Antigonish Bulldogs in the provincial final on Sunday at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

The victory capped an undefeated season for the Blues.

The host Truro Bearcats posted a 1-2-1 record at the five-team event. After dropping their first two games on Friday, the Bearcats rebounded on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Antigonish and skated to a 3-3 tie with Sackville. Truro needed a win over Sackville to advance to the championship game.

Chad Tucker of the Bearcats was named the tournament's most sportsmanlike player, while the host team received the fair play award as the least penalized team.

Jeff Burton of the Blues was named MVP, top forward, all-star forward and was the tournament's top scorer.
