Outstanding club team award honours for 15 years and under was given to the CC Rider under 14 boys tier 2A soccer team. Outstanding female athlete honours for the 15 and younger category were given to Karlee Burgess for her sport achievement in the past year. Burgess claimed numerous prizes for her efforts in the past 12 months and is active in soccer, curling, and track and field. Laura Shatford, with Legge Health Clinic Inc., made the presentation.

Madison Clarke was voted the outstanding female athlete for ages 16 to 20. Congratulating the young woman on her excellence in softball and hockey was Joanna Millar of Cat Country and Big Dog.

Truro's Anastasia Callaghan took home the outstanding female athlete for the 21 to 50 age group. Callaghan has contributed significantly to the women's volleyball team at Saint Mary's University in Halifax and last year she finished as the top libero in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) with the highest ratings of 4.7 digs per set and total digs of 315. Truro Mayor Bill Mills presented the award.

The outstanding male athlete award, in the 15 and under category, went to Gregory McCarthy, who had an outstanding year in track and field. Robyn Deveau, with PropertyGuys.com, made the presentation.

Peter Millman was named the outstanding male athlete award winner for ages 16 to 20. Gregory McCarthy accepted the award on Millman's behalf. The presentation was made by Duane Rath, of Blaikies.

The Cobequid Lawn Bowls Club captured one of the merit awards for its outstanding contribution to sport for a number of years. Accepting the award were Karen Hennigar, club president, and past president Ted Lohnes, middle. Myles Johnson of Johnson Saunders Inc. presented the award.

GoTruro.ca, a resource for everything associated with physical activities in Colchester County, received a merit award for its outstanding contribution to sport for a number of years. Accepting the award were organization director Jody Mattie and volunteer Ryan Hennessey. Sheri Tirrell, manager of the Pictou Road Tim Hortons, presented the award.

Mike Schmitt, left, was given the coach of the year award for his exceptional ability as an instructor, motivator and leader. Ted MacQueen, with Miller Waste Systems, presented the award.

A number of local athletes were honoured during the 30th annual Truro Sport Heritage Society awards ceremony.
