TRURO - The Truro Bearcats are among the top 20 nationally ranked junior A hockey teams in the nation.
The Canadian Junior Hockey League released their final weekly rankings on Tuesday, which show the Bearcats at No. 19. Truro is the lone Maritime Hockey League team on the list.
"It's really nice to be recognized," said Bearcats coach Shawn Evans. "The players had a tremendous second half of the season."
The Bearcats (36-11-1-2) clinched the Eastlink Division and overall regular season titles last Saturday after a 5-3 win over the Valley Wildcats. Truro has won 17 of its last 20 games.
The Bearcats finish the regular season this weekend with roads games on Friday in Lunenburg against the CIBC Wood Gundy Lumberjacks and Saturday in Kentville against the Wildcats.
The Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario league finished No. 1 in the national rankings, while Selkirk (Manitoba), Carlton Place (Central Ontario), Spruce Grove (Alberta) and Fort Frances (Saskatchewan) round out the top five.
