Fundy Rhinos book place in junior C league final against Spryfield

TRURO - The Fundy MU Rhino Renovations Rhinos are off to the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League final.

The Rhinos meet the Spryfield Silver and Black Attack in game 1 of their best-of-seven final Friday at 8 p.m. at RECC before travelling to Spryfield Saturday and Sunday for Games 2 and 3.

On paper, the series looks to be a battle. Spryfield (23-4-1-0) finished atop the regular season standings while Fundy (18-8-1-1) was third. However, Fundy managed to hand Spryfield two of its four loses this season.

Fundy eliminated the Amherst Colts in five games in their semifinal, capping the series with a 4-0 victory in Amherst. Perry McDonald led the way with a pair of goals while others came from Matt Calder and Dalton Turner. Lucas Gulliver supplied a pair of assists and Eric Durand made 35 saves for the shutout.
