The 15-year-old Hilden resident, along with her Chester Curling Club skip Mary Fay, Jennifer Smith and Janique LeBlanc, won the Canada Winter Games Team Selection Championship Sunday at Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax with a 7-3 victory over Cassie Cocks in the final of the double knockout event.

"It feels great," Burgess said. "Thinking about it now, it's cool knowing I'll get to represent Nova Scotia at Canada Games, something that only comes up every four years."

It's the latest honour for the team, which won the provincial junior title over the holidays then earned a bronze medal at nationals in Liverpool in January.

With double-life in the final, Fay (3-0) held a 4-2 lead after three ends before stealing one in the fourth and adding two more in the fifth. Cocks countered with a single point in the sixth before Fay ran her out of rocks in the seventh to clinch the win.

Fay also claimed 6-3 wins over Cocks and Sarah Snair earlier in the event.
