TRURO - The Truro Bearcats have their backs against the wall in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League playoffs.

The Bearcats came up just short in their playoff opener Saturday against the Halifax Gulls, getting nipped 3-2 in overtime.

The Bearcats will be fighting to extend their season when Game 2 of the best-of-three series resumes Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Halifax Forum. Game 3, if necessary, is slated for Sunday at 6 p.m. at the same location.

"The boys played extremely well, executed the game plan," head coach Lou Lanceleve said. They deserved a better result.

"We will put this one behind us and focus on what we need to continue for Game 2."

Ben Higgins scored both Truro tallies, giving his team 1-0 and 2-1 leads. Reuben MacKenzie assisted on both goals with other helpers coming from Matthew Smith and G Blackmore. Jack Lynds turned aside 28 shots in the Truro crease.

Nick Fewer scored both Halifax markers.
