Rolling Phones Bearcats advance to semifinal of N.B. tournament

TRURO – The Rolling Phones Truro Midget A Bearcats posted a 2-1-1 record and advanced to the semifinal of the 27th annual Dieppe/Memramcook Midget AA Tournament.

The Bearcats went undefeated in the round-robin, defeating York North Coyotes 8-1, Cap Pele/Shediac 3-2 and skating to a 1-1 tie with the Saint John Flames.

In the semifinal, the Bearcats lost 5-3 to Amqui Ambassadeur from Quebec. The Ambassadeur went on to defeat Saint John 5-0 in the final.

Caleb Coulson had a goal and an assist in the semifinal for the Bearcats, while Caelan Blaikie and Taylor Daigle had other goals. Nick Graham and Ryan Bakker also had assists and goaltender Nathan Hurlburt made 30 saves and was named player of the game.

In Game 1, Coulson fired four goals in the lopsided victory over York North. Bakker potted two goals and Daigle and Isaac Culgin scored others. Assists went to Brandon Bolger (2), Blaikie (2), Culgin, Brendan Wheeler, Ryan Porter, Coleman Porter, Josh Gamblin and Matt Crowell. Gamblin was player of the game.

In the victory over Cap Pele, Jacob Dillon led the attack with two goals, while Justin Zachariah notched a single. Blaikie, Crowell and Daigle had assists and Hurlburt was player of the game.

Culgin had the lone Truro goal in the tie against Saint John, assisted by Dillon. Zachariah was player of the game.
