SACKVILLE, N.B. – Members of the Dalhousie Rams earned individual honours on Friday during the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association women’s volleyball awards banquet at Mount Allison University.
Thea McLachlin of the Rams was named conference rookie of the year and was selected to the first all-star team. McLachlin, a native of Red Deer, Alta., is a five-foot-eight outside hitter. Her teammate, Samantha Fanning of Truro, was also named a first-team all-star.
The Rams are in Sackville this weekend for the ACAA championship tournament. No. 4-seeded Dalhousie (10-7) meets No. 1-ranked Mount Saint Vincent (18-0) in a semifinal match Saturday at noon. The other semifinal features No. 2 Mount Allison (11-7) against No. 3 UNBSJ (11-7). The winners meet in Sunday’s 1 p.m. final.
Other individual award winners announced during Friday’s banquet include: Haley MacDonald, MSVU (libero of the year); Meghan MacDougall, MSVU (player of the year) and Derrick Brooks, MSVU (coach of the year).
Other members of the first all-star team are: MacDougall, MacDonald, Christina Day (MSVU) and Erica Cronkhite (MTA). Second team all-stars are: Hannah Bradbury (USA), Katherine Houser (UNBSJ), Sydney Foy (MSVU), Veronique Bastarache (UNBSJ), Sarah Watts (STU) and Sydney Umlah (MTA).
