Woodstock visits RECC Wednesday night
TRURO - The Truro Bearcats will look to pad their lead atop the Eastlink Division standings Wednesday when they host the Woodstock Slammers in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
The Truro Bearcats host the Woodstock Slammers for a Maritime Junior Hockey League game Wednesday night at the RECC, beginning at 7 p.m.
Game time at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre is 7 p.m.
The Bearcats (32-11-0-2) sit one point ahead of the Pictou County Crushers (30-10-0-5) in the battle for first place as the regular season winds down. The Bearcats and Crushers have seven games remaining in the regular season.
"All the games are important at this point," said Bearcats coach Shawn Evans. "I think they get bigger as we go along."
The Bearcats will be missing three regulars tonight due to injury - Mitchell Robillard (broken wrist), Jeff Hanes (upper body) and Brandon Bazinet (upper body).
Truro has won two in a row and five of its last six games, while Woodstock (23-18-2-1) had a four-game winning streak snapped last Saturday by the Miramichi Timberwolves.
"Our opponent, except for maybe a couple of (lopsided) scores, has had a good, strong second half," said Evans. "That being said, we need to play to our strengths and we need to set the tone at home and we need to keep winning at home."
The Bearcats won the last meeting between the teams 11-2 on Jan. 4.
The Slammers have the league's top scorer - Jake Wright, who has 20 goals and 61 points in 44 games.
Chris Festarini gets the start tonight in nets for the Bearcats.
