BROOKFIELD – The Brookfield Elks ended their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League season Tuesday with an 8-1 loss to the East Hants Penguins.
The Elks (5-24-3-2) finish their schedule last in the six-team Fred Fox Division while the Penguins (18-10-2-1) hold the fourth and final playoff spot with a six-point cushion over the Eastern Shore Mariners (15-13-2-1). East Hants is just two points behind the third-place Bay Ducks (19-9-2-1).
Defenceman Mitchell Scott scored the lone Brookfield tally in the third period to break Coleman Ueffing’s shutout bid. Ueffing claimed the win with 49 saves.
Kinnon MacMillan stopped 44 in the Brookfield net.
Julian Makary scored twice for East Hants while other markers came from Mark Collins, Alexander Berry, Colin George, Jonathan Biron, Trevor Thorne and Evan Locke.
Former Elks Jordan Lauther, James Shapleigh and Cole Baker are now members of the Penguins, who finish their season on Saturday on the road against the Eastern Shore Mariners.
