BROOKFIELD – The Brookfield Elks were on the wrong end of a 10-3 drubbing from the Valley Maple Leafs Thursday in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action in Windsor.
The Elks drop to 5-23-3-2 while the victory pushes Valley (22-8-1-0) into a tie for first place in the Fred Fox Division with the defending champion Sackville Blazers (22-9-0-1) with just three games remaining in the regular season.
Valley stamped its authority early Thursday, building an 8-0 lead in the first period.
Matthew Canning paced the Elks with a pair of goals while Connor Hirtle notched the other and chipped in a pair of assists. Matt McMinn was handed the loss in a 28-save effort.
Mitchell Culley needed just 16 saves for the win and got help from a hat trick by Tyler Young. Greg Brown and Mitchell Normore both scored twice for Valley while Jeffrey Longaphy, Andrew Squires and David Hayes recorded single markers.
