Pictou County drops first two games in major midget playoffs

NEW GLASGOW - Pictou County finds itself in a 2-0 hole to the Newbridge Gladiators after the opening weekend of playoff action in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

Game 3 in the best of best-of-seven quarter-final is Saturday at 4 p.m. at Pictou County Wellness Centre with Game 4 Sunday at 1 p.m.

Pictou County was doubled 6-3 in game 2 on Sunday and was defeated by the same score in Saturday's opener. Pictou County (11-22-1-0) finished the regular season in sixth while the Gladiators (23-8-2-1) were third.

On Sunday, Mark Vokey, Lane Cormier and Cody Johnston did the Pictou County scoring. Vokey and Lucas Sangster each added a pair of assists and Truro's Luke Melanson made 40 saves.

On Saturday, Truro's Noah Archibald scored twice for Pictou while Johnston rounded out the scoring.Cormier and Vokey each had to helpers while Truro's Michael Stuart had one. Melanson stopped 26 shots.

Truro's Matthieu Fougere and Lucas Rushton and Lucas Holman of Bible Hill are also on the team.
