The setback was the 12th loss in a row for the young and rebuilding Elks (5-22-3-2), who are out of the playoff picture in the Fred Fox Division. The Mariners (14-12-2-1) are battling for the fourth and final postseason berth with the Bay Ducks (16-7-2-0).

The Elks hit the road to take on the Valley Maple Leafs (18-8-1-0) Feb. 7 at Hants County Arena at 7:50 p.m.

Jesse Magarvey scored a pair of goals for the Elks while Kaden Augustine potted the other. Matt McMinn was handed the loss in a 37-save effort.

Josh Rector powered the Mariners with a hat trick while former Truro Bearcat Jordan Cox, Tyler Somers and Dominic Howell also scored. Cox also collected a pair of assists for a three-point night.

Tyler Boudreau made 28 saves or the victory.
