Halifax nips Pictou County in major midget hockey

TRURO - Pictou County was shut out 1-0 by Halifax Sunday in major midget hockey.

Pictou County (11-22-1-0) is sixth in the eight-team circuit, just five points behind the South Shore Mustangs. Halifax (28-4-1-0) leads the league, three points clear of Cole Harbour (26-6-1-1).

The game, held at Pictou County Wellness Centre in New Glasgow, was a make-up from a postponed Dec. 22 contest.

Halifax's Luc Poirier scored the lone goal of the game at 17:51 of the third period, ruining Truro native Luke Melanson's shutout bid. Melanson made 38 saves in the game.

Truro Bearcats draft pick Jordan Yochoff is a member of the Halifax squad.
