TRURO - A blistering start to 2014 has pushed the Truro Bearcats back into the nation's Top 20 rankings this week.
The Bearcats (24-8-0-2) were slotted in 17th spot Monday as the Canadian Junior Hockey League announced it's weekly rankings. The Bearcats were one of several honourable mentions last week.
Truro is 5-0 since the calendar changed to 2014 and scored a pair of important victories over the Pictou County Crushers (23-7-0-5) and Amherst Ramblers (24-11-0-1) on the weekend. Truro defeated EastLink Division-leading Pictou County 5-2 before doubling the third-place Ramblers 4-2. The Bearcats sit in second spot in the division.
The results left the EastLink's top four teams separated by just three points.
The weekly rankings are based on several factors, including the league in which the teams play, winning percentage, win-loss record, total points and goals for and against ratio.
The Crushers were named as one of several honourable mentions on the CJHL list after slipping from 18th spot last week.
The Spruce Grove Saints (38-6-2-0) of the Alberta league topped the list while the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (36-5-3-0) are second. Northern Ontario's Soo Thunderbirds (36-4-2-0) are third.
