Elks shut out by Pirates in junior B hockey

PORT HAWKESBURY - The Brookfield Elks were blanked 5-0 by the Strait Pirates Saturday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The Elks (5-19-3-2) are last in the six-team Fred Fox Division, 11 points adrift of the fifth-place Eastern Shore Mariners (12-12-2-0). The Pirates (12-12-0-2) are second in theSid Rowe Division, 17 points behind the division-leading Glace Bay Miners (20-3-2-1).

Morgan Timmons, Steven Campbell, Matthew Papineau, Michael Scarth and Brennan Delaney all scored for the winners while Marcus Otmar made 37 saves for the shutout.

Kinnon MacMillan stopped 38 shots in the Brookfield net.

The Elks are back in action Saturday when they hot the road to meet Eastern Shore at 9 p.m.
