TRURO – It was a successful weekend for the Truro Bearcats.
The Bearcats (24-9=8-0-2) moved to within a point of the EastLink Division-leading Pictou County Crushers (23-7-0-5) Sunday with a 4-2 Maritime Junior Hockey League victory over the Amherst Ramblers (24-11-0-1) in front of 702 fans at RECC.
The Bearcats are in the middle of a logjam in the race for top spot. Amherst and the Yarmouth Mariners (23-10-2-1) are just one point behind Truro.
Jacob Smith notched the winning tally on Sunday while Phillip Fife, Jordan McNaughton and Colby Lanceleve also scored.
Chris Festarini, acquired at the trade deadline, made 28 saves for the Bearcats.
Cam McDonald and Connor Carson responded for the Ramblers, who got 33 saves from Richard Tingley.
The win came a day after the Bearcats defeated the Crushers 5-2.
Tyler Morrison scored twice for Truro with other goals coming from Brandon Bazinet, Jeff Hanes and Fife. Bazinet also had two assists for a three-point night and festarini stopped 29 shots.
J.P. Harvey and Mitchell Shewfelt scored for Pictou County and Brandon Thibeau made 33 saves.
The Bearcats are back in action Friday when they travel to Bridgewater to take on the Lumberjacks (2-32-3-2) at 7 p.m. before the Dieppe Commandos (23-8-2-2) visit Saturday at 7 p.m.
