TRURO - The more football, the better.
Truro Minor Football Association
That's the message Truro Minor Football Association president Chris Reyno is spreading as the association gears up for the Spring Junior Football League for 12- and 13-year-old players.
"It gives those kids coming up from peewee to get the feel of the bantam game," Reyno said. "There's a pretty big difference so it gives the kids some experience and team building before the fall season starts."
Registration for the program, which is entering just its second year, will be held Jan. 22 and 29 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the TAAC Grounds clubhouse. Reyno said he hopes to have 30 players sign up to make the team viable.
The cost is $250 per player plus a $100 equipment deposit. Players get a $15 discount on their fall registration.
A season-opening jamboree, which includes other league teams such as Bedford, Dartmouth, Valley, Timberlea and Halifax, is scheduled for March 29 followed by a six-week season and two-week postseason.
Teams play a shootout style format where teams start at the other's 35-yard line and attempt to score.
"It's a faster game obviously with the field a lot smaller but it's a great opportunity to get plays in."
