Rams split weekend in women’s volleyball

BIBLE HILL – The Dalhousie Rams split their opening matches of 2014 in ACAA women’s volleyball action.

The Rams (5-4) were swept 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-15) Sunday by the Mount Allison Mounties (6-2) after opening the second half of the schedule with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22) victory over the Sainte-Anne Dragons (2-6).

The results leave the Rams in a tie for third in the seven-team conference with the St. Thomas Tommies (5-2) and just two points behind the Mounties and Mount St. Vincent Mystics (6-0).

Truro’s Samantha Fanning made five kills and 13 digs against the Mounties while fellow Truro resident and former Cobequid Cougars teammate Sarah Matheson collected six kills and nine digs.

Thea McLachlin paced the Rams against the Dragons with 12 kills while Fanning claimed 10. Katie McQueen made 19 digs.

The Rams are back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host the Saint John Seawolves (2-4) at Langille Athletic Centre.
