Rhinos charging through competition in junior C hockey

TRURO - The Fundy MU Rhino Renovations Rhinos recorded a pair of wins in their most recent set of Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League contests.

The Rhinos topped the Barrington Sea Dogs 5-3 after defeating the Clare Lions 6-1.

The results pushed the Rhinos (13-6-1-1) into third spot in the seven-team league, one point ahead of Barrington (13-6-0-1). Clare (1-17-0-0) is last.

Ben Lynds, Neil Smith, Devin Vanderkooi, Mike Snook and Brennan Hartling did the scoring against Barrington. Hartling and Matt Calder picked up assists and Dennis Nolan was the winning goaltender with 30 saves.

Against Clare, Hartling and Johnny Horsman led the charge with both netting a pair of goals while Calder and Dalton Turner added single markers. Calder also recorded an assist.

Eric Durand made 28 saves for the win.

The Rhinos are back on the ice Friday with they host the Amherst Colts at 8 p.m. at RECC before the Lions visit on Sunday.
