Bearcats fall to Cougars, X-Men in major bantam hockey

TRURO - The Truro Bearcats suffered a pair of losses on the weekend in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Bearcats (2-20-4) were defeated 3-1 Sunday by the Cape Breton Cougars (18-3-2) after falling 5-0 Saturday to the Nova Junior X-Men (15-7-3).

The results leave the Bearcats 11th in the 12-team league, five points clear of the last-place Kings squad (0-21-3).

Ben Higgins notched the lone Truro tally against Cape Breton with help from Reuben MacKenzie. Jack Lynds suffered the loss in a 22-save effort.

On Saturday, Lynds faced 39 shots.

The Bearcats are off until Jan. 18 when they hit the road to take on the Halifax Hawks (7-15-4) before returning home the following day to host the St. Margaret's Bay Gulls (20-5-0) at 11 a.m. RECC.
