SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – The Truro Bearcats scored four second-period goals, including three in a 3:11 stretch, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Summerside Western Capitals on Sunday.
The Maritime Junior Hockey League contest was played before an announced crowd of 586 fans at Eastlink Arena.
It was the Caps’ fourth loss in a row.
Kyle Tibbo (1-1), Jordan McNaughton, Colby Lanceleve, Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud, Tyler Morrison and Jacob Smith scored for the Bearcats, who improved to 21-8-0-2 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) and move two points ahead of the Yarmouth Mariners (20-9-2-0) into sole possession of second place in the Eastlink Division.
Brad Power (1-1), Alex Bradley and Isaac Jay replied for the Capitals (10-17-2-1).
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and the Bearcats took a 5-1 cushion into the second intermission.
Jordan Kennedy earned the goaltending win over Simon-Pier Chamberland.
