BROOKFIELD - A group of Colchester County players helped the Cumberland County Blues to an 8-7 overtime win Friday over the Brookfield Elks.
North River's Shawn Wright scored, Brookfield resident Drew McNutt picked up an assist and Truro's Jesse Cox made 25 saves and notched an assist for the Blues.
The victory ended a 15-game skid for the Blues dating back to Oct. 18.
The Elks (5-16-3-1) sit last among six teams in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League's Fred Fox Division while the Blues (3-19-0-1) occupy the basement of the five-team Sid Rowe Division.
It was the final game of 2013 for both teams.
Connor Hirtle had a five-point night for the Elks with a hat trick and two assists while Matthew Canning, Zach Coates, Ivan Knockwood and Mitchell Scott also scored. Lucas Dawe collected four assists and Ryan Crowe had three. Kinnon MacMillan made 23 saves in the Brookfield crease.
Stephen Whittle scored the winner with other Cumberland goals coming from Jonathan Tattrie (3), Jesse Colborne (2), and Demitrii Anikin.
