Special teams key for Crushers in win over Bearcats

NEW GLASGOW – The Truro Bearcats were blanked 3-0 by the Pictou County Weeks Crushers on Thursday in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Crushers 3, Bearcats 0.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Bearcats (19-8-0-2). It was the fifth straight win for the first-place Crushers (22-4-4).

Special teams played a special role for the Crushers on Thursday, as Garret Holmes and Jordan McInnis notched first-period power-play goals, while David Stephens added a shorthanded tally in the third period.

Crushers goaltender Devan Tremblay made 45 saves for the shutout, while Jacob Fancy made 29 saves for the Bearcats.

Attendance at the Pictou County Wellness Centre was 859.

The Bearcats next game is Saturday in Amherst, beginning at 7 p.m. It's Truro's final game before the Christmas break.
