Shapleigh's four-point effort leads Penguins over Elks

BROOKFIELD - Truro's James Shapleigh notched four points to power the East Hants Penguins to a 10-5 victory over the Brookfield Elks on Tuesday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

Shapleigh, a former Elk, netted two goals and added a pair of assists for the Penguins (12-5-0-2).

Kyle Ritchie added a hat trick for East Hants, while Jon Biron had two goals and Cole MacDonell, Brandon Leonardo and Jamie Sweet picked up singles. Truro's Jordan Lauther had two assists and Cole Baker of Stewiacke also had a helper for the visitors.

Matt Canning led the Elks (5-16-0-3) with two goals and two assists, while Connor Hirtle netted a pair of goals and Ian O'Brien a single marker.

The Penguins led 4-1 after the first period and took a 7-4 cushion into the third.

Jason Ellis made 30 saves for the Penguins, while Brandon Archibald of the Elks faced 42 shots.
