Pictou County uses shootout to beat Newbridge in major midget hockey

NEW GLASGOW - Pictou County nipped the Newbridge Academy Gladiators 5-4 in a shootout Saturday in their Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League tilt.

The result holds Pictou County (6-19-1-0) in seventh in the eight-team league, three points clear of the Cape Breton Tradesmen (4-16-0-2). The Gladiators (17-6-2-1) sit in third spot.

Pictou County erased 2-0 and 4-2 deficits for the win.

Lane Cormier, Mark Vokey, Evan MacLennan and Doug Barton all scored for Pictou County. Cormier and Lucas Sangster each added a pair of assists with Bible Hill resident Lucas Holman, Blair Dewtie and Cody Johsnton chipping in single helpers.

Truro's Luke Melanson made 40 saves for the win.

The shootout winner was unavailable at press time.

Truro's Noah Archibald, Matthieu Fougere, Lucas Rushton and Michael Stuart are also members of the team.
