The Truro Rolling Phones Bearcats won the midget AA level of the recent Markan Hardware Tournament in Pownal, P.E.I., with a 2-1 win over the Charlottetown Abbies in the final. In spite of their status as a midget A club, the Bearcats defeated the Charlottetown Abbies 2-1 in the final, erasing a 1-0 deficit.
Truro doused the North River Flames (P.E.I.) 4-2 in the semifinal. The Bearcats were 2-1 in the round robin, wrapping up with a 4-2 loss to the Flames after blanking the Gulf Storm 3-0 and nipping the Abbies 2-1.
Goaltender Brandon Archibald was the player of the game with a 15-save performance in the final. Ryan Porter and Coleman Porter did the scoring. Brandon Bolger, Isaac Culgin and Caleb Coulson chipped in with assists.
In the semifinal, Caelan Blaikie led the Bearcats with a pair of goals while Coulson and Ryan Bakker rounded out the scoring. Bakker added an assist and Nathan Hurlburt made 21 saves for the victory.
Coulson notched both Truro goals in the loss to North River with Matt Crowell assisting on both. Blaikie and Jacob Dillon also had helpers and Archibald was tagged with the loss.
Truro got goals from Dillon and Brendan Wheeler in its first meeting with Charlottetown. Culgin collected a par of assists and Hurlburt manned the crease.
Against Gulf, Blaikie, Bakker and Bryson Crowell scored for Truro. Dillon contributed a pair of assists and Bryson Crowell and Bakker recorded singles. Archibald made 14 saves for the shutout.
