TRURO - Daniel Perigo scored a pair of goals as the Truro Bearcats dismantled the Amherst Ramblers 7-1 Saturday in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
The win leaves the Bearcats (17-7-0-2) in a tie for second in the EastLink Division with the Yarmouth Mariners (18-7-0-0) at 36 points apiece.
The Bearcats are back in action Friday when they travel to Dieppe to take on the Commandos (18-5-2-0) at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Bridgewater Lumberjacks (2-22-3-2) Saturday at 7 p.m. at RECC.
Perigo opened the scoring the Bearcats in front of 619 fans at Amherst Stadium at 7:44 of the first period and Truro never looked back, scoring six more unanswered tallies before Nick Cass got Amherst on the board with 35 seconds remaining.
Jacob Smith, Daniel Poliziani, Brandon Bazinet, Kyle Tibbo and Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud also scored for Truro, which got 31 saves from Jacob Fancy.
Billy Clarke suffered the loss in a 33-save performance.
The victory came a night after the Bearcats suffered a 3-1 setback to the Miramichi Timberwolves (16-6-0-2) Friday in front of 557 fans at RECC.
Kyle Tibbo netted the lone Truro tally.
Billy Gaston, Tyler Brown and Rankyn Campbell, with an empty netter, scored for Miramichi. Jacob Fancy made 27 saves while Clint Windsor made 31 for the win.
