Defending champs open with straight-set wins over West Kings, Park View

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars are off to a strong start at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 1 boys volleyball championship.

The defending provincial champion Cougars posted straight-set wins on Friday at the eight-team tournament, defeating the West Kings Wolverines (25-22, 25-20) and Park View Panthers (25-23, 25-15).

The Cougars play their final round-robin match Saturday against the Citadel Phoenix (1-1) at 9 a.m.

Other results from Friday were: Citadel def. Park View 2-0 (25-20, 25-11); Ecole sec. du Sommet def. Halifax West 2-0 (25-19, 25-18); Horton def. Sackville 2-1 (17-25, 25-21, 15-12); West Kings def. Citadel (25-15, 25-15).

The top two teams in each pool advance to semifinals Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The final will begin at 3:30 p.m.
