TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars settled for a second-place finish at the recent Glace Bay High School Panther Classic hockey tournament.

For the second year in a row, the Cougars faced off against the Riverview Redmen from Sydney River in the final, falling 4-1 to their Cape Breton counterparts.
Austin Wheeler had the lone CEC goal in the final, assisted by Brady Davis and Cole Allaby. Blake Meech played nets.
The Cougars posted a 1-2 record in preliminary play and defeated Sydney Academy 3-2 in a shootout in the semifinal on a goal from Tristin Clark in the seventh round. Wheeler and Gallant each had a goal and an assist and Matt Laing and Davis also had helpers. Sebastien Gibson nailed down the win between the pipes.
In Game 1, the Cougars suffered a 5-2 loss to Riverview. Davis and Brady Meech scored and Allaby, Richard MacNevin and Kylar Frank had assists.
In Game 2, Meech and Davis scored in a 2-0 triumph over the JL Illsley Judges. Wheeler and MacNevin had assists and Gibson posted the shutout.
In their final preliminary game, the Couagrs were edged 4-3 by the Memorial Marauders. Meech, Gallant and Jevan McNutt found the back of the net and MacNevin and Clark assisted.
Clark, a defenceman, was named to the first tournament all-star team, while Gibson was a second-team all-star.
