TRURO - Two Truro rinks have punched their ticket to the Nova Scotia junior curling championship.
Scott Babin and defending provincial girls champion Mary Myketyn-Driscoll earned their spots during a recent Eastern qualifier at Truro Curling Club.
Babin, mate Jonathan Crouse, second Andrew Burgess and lead Alex MacNeil posted a 2-1 record at the six-team qualifier. Myketyn-Driscoll, third Taylor Clarke, second Mackenzie Proctor and lead Sarah Sears went 3-1 to earn their berth.
Other boys teams to advance to provincials from the Eastern qualifier were Chester's Alex Rafuse and Mayflower's Matthew Manuel, while Lakeshore's Haley McCabe and Mayflower's Emily Manuel advanced on the girls side.
At the Western qualifier in Lunenburg, Windsor's Robert Mayhew, Trevor Crouse of Bridgewater and Chester's Adam Cocks nabbed provincial spots in boys action, while Mayflower's Emily Dwyer, Chester's Mary Fay and Lunenburg's Brooke Demone advanced. Truro's Karlee Burgess throws second stones for the Fay foursome.
The eight-team provincial fields will be finalized next weekend at a last-chance qualifier in Liverpool. The provincial championship will be held at Lakeshore in Lower Sackville Dec. 27 to 31.
