Struggling Pictou County wins twice in major midget hockey

TRURO - Pictou County took a pair of games from the Valley Wildcats on the weekend in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

Pictou County Weeks

Pictou County nipped the fourth-place Wildcats (12-7-2-3) 5-4 Sunday after cruising to a 5-1 victory on Saturday.

The results lift Pictou (5-17-1-0) out of the eight-team league basement and into seventh spot, one point ahead of the Cape Breton Tradesmen (4-14-0-2).

Mark Vokey notched a hat trick for Pictou County on Sunday with other goals coming from Lane Cormier and Blair Dewtie. Matthew Williams made 30 saves.

On Saturday, Truro's Noah Archibald scored for Pictou County, which also got goals from Vokey, Johnston, Nathaniel Leger and Matt Sartoris. Williams turned aside 34 shots.

Truro's Matthieu Fougere, Luke Melanson, Lucas Rushton and Michael Stuart and Lucas Holman of Bible Hill are also members of the team.

Pictou County hosts Cole Harbour Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for the first of a home-and-home which wraps up Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in Cole Harbour.
