Shapleigh leads Penguins over Jr. B Elks

LANTZ – Three former Brookfield Elks hit the scoresheet on Friday night to lead the East Hants Penguins to a 5-4 shootout victory over their old team in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

Elks edged by Penguins.

James Shapleigh notched two goals and assisted on another, while Jordan Lauther had a goal and Cole Baker picked up an assist.

Mark Collins had the other goal for the first-place Penguins (11-1-1-1).

Connor Hirtle and Ian O’Brien each had a goal and an assist for the Elks (4-12-1-1), while Matthew Canning and Zachary Coates netted other tallies.

The Elks had 37 shots, while Brookfield goaltender Spencer Scott was peppered with 54 shots.

The Elks next game is Tuesday when they host the Valley Maple Leafs for a 7:30 p.m. start at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.
