SACKVILLE – The Sackville Blazers weren’t welcoming hosts Monday to the Brookfield Elks.
The Elks (3-8-0-1) were given an 11-1 thrashing by the defending Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League champions, holding Brookfield in the basement of the six-team Fred Fox Division with their sixth consecutive loss. The Blazers (8-2-0-0) are in second spot.
Sackville notched three goals in both the first and second periods to put the game out of reach early before pumping five more into the Brookfield net in the third.
Spencer Scott was chased from the Elks crease after six tallies snuck past. He made 29 saves. Dennis Nolan went the rest of the way, surrendering five goals and making 17 stops.
Zach Coates scored the lone Brookfield tally with help from Matthew Canning and Ian O’Brien. Shayne Oderkirk and Aaron Meahan both scored twice for Sackville, which saw six players hit the three-point plateau. Other goals came from Aaron MacDonald, Shane Boudreau, Ryan Davis and Brian Reardon.
Alexander Reynolds made 42 saves for the win.
The Elks are back in action tonight when they host the Eastern Shore Mariners (4-6-1-0) at 7:30 p.m. at Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex for the first time this season.
The Elks trail the Mariners by just two points, giving them a prime opportunity to climb out of the division basement.
