The Truro Freightliners were looking to clinch a berth in the NS Minor Football Bantam Tier 1 playoffs Friday night, but the Bedford/Sackville Saints were looking for the same thing.
The Weather created interesting field positions early on with the high winds and soft infield keeping the passing and kicking game from being part of the early game plan. The Freightliners had two early chances to score inside the Saint's 20 yard line, but the Saint defense held on both occasions.
Late in the first quarter the weather cleared somewhat and with the wind at their back the Saints connected on a long pass that went 40 yards for a touchdown. The two point convert gave the Saints a 8-0 lead.
The Bombers had one more chance before half to try and tie the game, but the clock ran out at the half with the ball on the 20 yard line.
Bedford/Sackville connected on another pass early in the fouth quarter and distanced themselves for good. Truro stopped the two point convert but was behind 14-0. The rest of the game was a struggle for field position and Truro ran out of chances.
Logan Toole was recognized as the player of the game for making many tackles including a sack and several tackles for a loss.
The Freightliners will have to settle for a tier two birth, and will host a home game next week at the TAAC Grounds. Kickoff time and opponent are yet to be determined.
