TRURO – The Cobequid Cougars rolled to a 48-7 victory over the West Kings Wolverines Sunday in the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Football League.
The win lifts the Cougars to 4-3. Cobequid could finish fifth in the Scotia Division with a victory over the Sir John A. Macdonald Flames Saturday at 1 p.m. at James Macpherson Stadium. That standing would force them to settle for hosting a Tier 1 consolation playoff game against the sixth seed from the Nova Division.
“We needed a game like that,” Cougars coach Scot Annand said. “It was nice for the guys to get some confidence as we head down the stretch.”
Quarterback Riley Jennings converted seven of his 13 passing attempts for a pair of touchdowns. He collected 95 yards and also tossed an interception.
Alex Upham was on the receiving end of those two Touchdown passes, his only two catches of the game for 50 yards. Running back Austin Wheeler made nine carries for 64 yards and also scored a pair of majors.
Aiden Roy forced a fumble, recovered it and ran the ball in for a touchdown while Corey Knockwood made three interceptions and returned one for a major. Drew Erskine made three tackles and a sack.
Cobequid also benefitted from three safties and Nick Zscheile made all six extra-point conversions he attempted.
