TRURO – The Cobequid Cougars get their second crack at getting to provincials today when they host the C.P. Allen Cheetahs.
Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Dalhousie Agricultural Campus.
The Cheetahs posted a 7-1-1 record in the regular season while the Cougars finished their schedule at 2-1-1.
The winner of the match moves on to a second provincial qualifier Saturday against the Riverview Reds in Riverview. The winner of that match earns a berth at provincials Nov. 1 and 2.
“Our plan is to make sure we play both ways and that when we get a scoring chance, we fulfill that opportunity,” Cougars coach Trevor Gordon said.
Capitalizing on scoring opportunities has been an issue for the Cougars, who seemingly have no trouble generating chances but have had difficulty finishing.
“We’ve talked about it a lot,” Gordon said. “When we get close to the net, we want a hit on the net and we have to make use of our corner and free kicks.”
The Cougars missed their initial chance at qualifying for provincials last week when they fell 1-0 to the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals on extra-time penalty kicks in the Northumberland region final.
