TRURO - Truro and area will be represented this weekend at the Atlantic Challenge Cup hockey tournament in Moncton.
Five local players will compete in the four-day event, which gets underway today at Moncton's Red Ball Internet Centre.
Goaltender Alex MacDonald of Truro and defenceman Jared MacIsaac of Valley will don Nova Scotia colours in the under-14 male division, while Truro goaltender Jack Lynds is a member of the under-15 male squad.
In the under-15 female division, Bible Hill's Julia Schmitt and Julia Scammell of Murray Siding will play for Nova Scotia. Both players are defencemen.
More than 320 young hockey players from throughout Atlantic Canada will play in the tournament, which is billed as Atlantic Canada's high-performance hockey championship.
Today and Saturday, players will practise in the morning and early afternoon, with game times at 5:15 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m., and 8 p.m., on all four ice surfaces. Sunday's games will be at 10 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 12:45 p.m. The bronze- and gold-medal games are Monday at 9 a.m., 9:15 a.m., noon and 12:15 p.m.
