TRURO - The Saint Mary's Huskies and St. Francis Xavier X-Men will clash in Truro on Friday in an exhibition university hockey game.
The contest will be played at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre, beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $8 and there is no admission for children five and younger. Tickets can be purchased online at ticketpro.ca or at the RECC box office.
The game will be the final preseason date for both teams before the Atlantic University Sport regular season opens Oct. 18, when the Huskies, national runners-up last season, meet the Moncton Blue Eagles and the X-Men take on the defending national champion New Brunswick Varsity Reds.
The Truro Physio One Bearcats atom AAA team is hosting the game as a major fundraiser to help pay for practice and game ice time, along with tournament and league fees. There will also be a silent auction fundraiser for the team during the university game.
The atom AAA Bearcats will also practice before the game with the coaching staffs of both teams, and possibly a few players.
The Bearcats (9- and 10-year-olds from the Truro, West Colchester and Cumberland minor programs) will compete in a five-team league, which also consists of Acadia, South Shore, Pictou and Antigonish. The club is coached by Greg Mullen and assistants Tim Macumber, Dennis Putnam and Martin Sellers.
The Bearcats are currently into their exhibition schedule and will begin league play on Oct. 19.
