BROOKFIELD – A bitter start to the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League season continued Tuesday for the Brookfield Elks.
The Elks (1-4-0-0) were slapped with a 2-1 loss by the Sackville Blazers (3-0-0-0) on home ice at Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex, their fourth in a row after winning their season opener in a shootout in Glace Bay.
The setback leaves the Elks in last place in the six-team Fred Fox Division while Sackville, East Hants and Valley are all tied for first.
Lucas Dawe scored the lone Brookfield tally while Spencer Scott was tagged with the loss in a 34-save performance.
Alex Reynolds made 36 stops in the Sackville crease and got goal support from Ryan Davis and Brett Arthur.
The Elks are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Trenton to take on the Pictou County Scotians at 7:30 p.m. The Scotians then visit Brookfield Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
