BROOKFIELD - The Cumberland County Blues edged the Brookfield Elks 4-3 on Tuesday night in Brookfield to pick up their first win in three tries.
Six minutes in Steven Whittle opened the scoring for the Blues, an even-strength goal, from Jesse Colborne and Shane Harnish. Just under a minute later Ian O’Brien had Brookfield even at one from Jacob Bowers and captain Lucas Dawe. Four minutes later Cumberland’s Paul Gulliver gave the lead back to the visitors at 2-1 from Colborne and Whittle.
Shots in the period favoured Brookfield 16-12.
Five minutes into the third Cumberland struck again when Zach Black finished from Aaron Crocker and a 3-1 lead. In the span of two and a half minutes Brookfield managed to knot the game at three. First, Leon Knockwood, on the power play, from Ivan Knockwood followed by Ian O’Brien, with his second of the night.
The Elks controlled the shot clock 15-7 for a 2-period total of 31-19.
In the third Aaron Crocker broke a 3-3 tie, with the only goal of the period, just over 2 minutes in. Stephen Whittle picked up the lone assist and for Whittle three points on the night.
Jesse Cox had the win for the Blues while Spencer Scott was tagged with the loss.
Final shots were 41-34 Brookfield.
