TRURO – The Truro Bearcats slipped just two spots in Canada’s junior A hockey rankings this week despite not playing a game.
The Bearcats (4-0-0-1) slipped to sixth in Monday’s Canadian Junior Hockey League list after coming into the week in fourth spot. Truro’s lone game of the week, a Saturday night tilt at RECC against the Campbellton Tigers (2-3-1-0), was cancelled due to the RECC’s official opening ceremonies and April Wine concert.
The weekly rankings are based on several factors, including the league in which the teams play, winning percentage, win-loss record, total points and goals for and against ratio.
The Bearcats were the only Maritime Junior Hockey League team to crack the top-20 list with the Yarmouth Mariners (6-1-0-0) garnering an honourable mention.
The Alberta league’s Fort McMurray Oil Barons (10-0-0-0) held onto top spot while the Quebec circuit’s Les Cougars de Sherbrooke (10-0-0-0) remained in second spot. Saskatchewan’s La Ronge Ice Wolves (4-0-0-0) rounded out the top three.
The Bearcats are back in action Saturday when they host the rival Pictou County Crushers (5-0-0-1) the only team other than Truro to remain undefeated in regulation this season.
