LOWER SACKVILLE – The Brookfield Elks suffered an 11-0 whallop from the Sackville Blazers Monday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
The result knocks the Elks back to 1-1-0-0. It was Sackville’s first game of the season.
The defending champion Blazers fired five goals into the Brookfield net the third period to ice the contest after scoring three in each of the first and second stanzas. They outshot Brookfield 40-29.
The setback comes after the Elks allowed 61 shots on goaltender Spencer Scott Saturday in Glace Bay. Brookfield, however, escaped with a 4-3 shootout win.
Ryan Davis notched a hat trick for the Blazers on Monday and added a pair of assists for a five-point night. Zachary Thomas (2), Brett Arthur (2), Shane Boudreau, Adam Brown, Justin Hessian and Scott Stone also scored. Alexander Reynolds made 29 saves for the win.
Brookfield starter Dennis Nolan was chased from the net early in the third period after allowing seven goals on 29 shots. He was replaced by Scott, who surrendered four goals on 11 shots the rest of the way.
