TRURO - The Truro Bearcats won their Maritime Junior Hockey League season home opener on Saturday, defeating the Amherst Ramblers 5-3 in front of 1,033 fans.
Colby Lanceleve and Daniel Perrigo paced the 3-0-0-1 Bearcats with a goal and an assist apiece.
Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud, Phillip Fife and Tyler Morrison, into an empty net, also netted singles. Brandon Bazinet and Cal Gloade each had two assists.
Replying for the 1-4-0-0 Ramblers were Ryan Caswell, Zack MacEwan and Brett Shute.
Truro outshot Amherst 30-24. Netminders were Jordan Kennedy for the Bearcats and Richard Tingley for the Ramblers.
The Bearcats return to action on Sunday when they host the 2-2-0-0 Valley Wildcats at the Community Credit Union Arena at 2 p.m.
The Wildcats fell 4-2 to the Summerside Western Capitals at Kentville on Saturday.
In other action, the host Yarmouth Mariners nipped the Campbellton Tigers 3-2 in overtime and the Miramichi Timberwolves doubled thre visiting Dieppe Commandoes 6-3.
