CAMPBELLTON - The Truro Bearcats sqaundered a 5-3 third-period lead and lost 6-5 in a shootout to the Campbelllton Tigers in Maritime Junior Hockey League play here on Friday.
It was the season opener for the Bearcats who led 3-1 after the first period and 5-3 after 40 minutes.
Tyler Morrison scored two goals for Truro with singles going to Jeff Hanes, Jordan MacNaughton and Cal Gloade. Philip Fife had three assists.
Francis Savoie and Oliver Gendron netted two goals apiece for the Tigers. Savoie's second tied the score 5-5 with 3:41 remaining. Tyler Johnson added a single.
Netminders were Jordan Kennedy for Truro and Miguel Sullivan for Campbellton.
In other action, the Valley Wildcats edged the Amherst Ramblers in Kentville. The Wildcats were based in Dartmouth last season and are the first Valley-based team in the league since the early 1980s.
At Liverpool, the Yarmouth Mariners outscored the Bridgewater Lumberjacks 6-5 in a shootout.
